How Hostility Works: The Levels of Escalation

The hostility mechanic in Skull and Bones is designed to mimic the shifting tides of pirate politics. As players take actions that harm or disrupt the interests of a faction, they raise their hostility level, which escalates through four distinct stages. This system ensures that there are both short-term and long-term consequences for player decisions.

At level one, factions will issue warnings, signaling their displeasure without direct confrontation. This might include visual cues such as a yellow or orange marker on a faction’s ships, signifying that tension is building. At this stage, players can still choose to avoid further escalation by leaving the area or changing their course of action.

Once hostility reaches level two, the faction takes a more aggressive stance. Ships from the faction begin actively pursuing the player, signaling that a confrontation is imminent. Players are now on the frontline of an escalating conflict and must be ready for battle.

However, things truly take a dangerous turn when hostility hits level three. At this point, the faction abandon diplomacy altogether. The ships will be fully hostile, attacking on sight and hunting the player with a singular focus. To make matters worse, the faction will call in reinforcements, turning what might have been a simple skirmish into a full-blown pirate battle. Players must have the skills and the resources to Skull and bones items for sale online survive such encounters.
